A delegation of Chinese automotive and technology companies visited János Neumann University in Kecskemét, marking the second major Chinese professional delegation to visit Kecskemét in two weeks. The delegation members represented companies operating in the fields of energy, automation, automotive supply, logistics, and smart technology, who had come to Hungary for a Central European automotive-focused business event. In addition to the professional program in Budapest, they visited Neumann János University exclusively as the sole Hungarian higher education stop on their European tour.

The Chinese delegation’s visit to Kecskemét focused on the region’s automotive industry profile, as well as the university’s role in the region’s engineering education, innovation ecosystem, and industrial network. For the Chinese business leaders and industry representatives, the fields of materials technology, mechanical engineering, automation, and applied engineering were of particular interest.

This visit is a clear reflection of the deliberate efforts to build international relationships that have taken place at János Neumann University in recent years. The institution’s collaborations with China gained significant momentum in 2024 at an international conference hosted by Shanghai Dianji University, and since then, active professional relationships and collaborations have been established with five additional Chinese universities.

These partnerships now extend beyond traditional higher education ties. In addition to joint research, student mobility programs, and academic collaborations, direct business and industrial relationships are also being built around the university. A key factor in this was the strategic shift in approach that Neumann János University initiated in 2022 by revamping its international relations system. The Office of External Affairs and International Relations, operating under this new structure, is now tasked not only with coordinating the enrollment of international students but also with developing business-based international relationships, building strategic partnerships, and supporting industrial collaborations.

The strategic support provided by the János Neumann University Foundation has also played a key role in the achievements of recent years, enabling the long-term and consistent development of the university’s international outreach.

Collaborations in the fields of education and research have also become increasingly intensive. Currently, faculty members from János Neumann University are giving guest lectures at Chongqing University, while next week Kecskemét will host an international publication conference featuring a leading international expert on scientific publishing and research management, who will also be traveling from China to speak.

With support from the Pannonia Scholarship Program, Hungarian students from János Neumann University in Kecskemét have already participated in three sessions of Chinese summer university and professional camps, while more than 60 Chinese students have already applied for this year’s international summer program organized in Hungary, and they will arrive in Kecskemét in July.

The next major milestone in our partnership will be the mechanical engineering program we are launching jointly with Bengbu University, which is expected to begin this fall. Recent developments clearly demonstrate that János Neumann University has now established itself in Chinese professional and business networks not only as a higher education partner but also as an active international player in the region’s industrial and technological ecosystem.
