John von Neumann University is one of the scientific centers of the region with its research-development-innovation activities and scientific performance.

The institution is a decisive player in the professional and scientific public life due to the diversity of the scientific fields managed by the faculties (natural sciences, technical sciences, agricultural sciences, economic sciences, social sciences), its extensive domestic and international network, the high proportion of academically qualified instructors and researchers, as well as its scientific research performance; therefore, it has an important role in the professional-scientific public life.

Pursuit of high-level, planned and systematic scientific activity reflecting uniform aspects is included in the strategic objectives of the higher education institution. The core values of our scientific strategy are permeated by the aspects of practice orientation, applicability, social responsibility, and sustainability, and the support of technological and knowledge transfer processes, internationalization, cooperation with external partners; in addition, the socialization of scientific research results play a prominent role in it. In the long term, the continuously extending training, research and scientific activities can lay the foundation for the future of master's courses built around the developing scientific knowledge centers, which, in the future, can be the basis of a multidisciplinary doctoral school, and thus our institution can become a university in the classical sense.

The research and scientific activities of the University of Applied Sciences are determined by the workshops established in previous years, the top priority (strategic) research topics, and larger-scale research collaborations, which mainly  take advantage of EU co-financed tender opportunities,  are expected in the next period.

R+D+I activity of the University of Applied Sciences is primarily related to the practice-oriented training offer, the results achieved in this field are reflected in participation in several international projects, in successful participation in competitions and inventions.

Inventions

“The frameless foil early cultivation” method developed at the Faculty of Horticulture and Rural Development is used nationally on an area of about 3,000 hectares. The computer grape plant protection prediction program developed in international cooperation is well-known in several European countries as well as in Australia and Canada.

GAMF Faculty has already issued 4 Hungarian patents in the field of mechanical sciences in order to improve the flexibility and productivity of deburring.

The University considers the direct economic utilization of scientific results, the establishment of the closest possible cooperation between the higher education institution and its economic environment, and the wide dissemination of scientific results as a priority goal. Our institution is currently running a number of research programs that were started based on the specific development needs of companies and enterprises.

The academic public life of the institution is rich and diverse, in accordance with the disciplines under care. All three faculties (GAMF, GTK, KVK) have scientific workshops that work on diverse research programs in topics appropriate to their fields of expertise.

Our university attaches great importance to the matter of research recruitment and student talent management. It encourages and supports the acquisition of academic degrees by lecturers and the academic activities of students, for which the framework is provided by the Science and Arts Student Circles, The Advanced Studies College, and the mentoring network.

In addition to educational and R+D+I collaborations, our university plays a significant role in popularizing scientific results and nurturing domestic and international scientific relations. The university's scientific conferences, scientific and educational events, cultural events, and scientific journals serve this purpose. The transmission, redistribution and dissemination of scientific results are facilitated by the conferences related to the celebration of science, the programs of the Night of Researchers and the Night of Museums, which are also very popular among the wider public, the events of the open days, scientific lectures and exhibitions. The university faculties have considerable traditions in the field of scientific organization and the transmission of the latest scientific results; the continuous professional education, symposia, and trainings also play an important role in their professional objectives and work plans. These events serve not only the deepening of the university's social integration, but also the popularization of science and student recruitment.

The interdisciplinary and international AGTECO conference, which is organized in connection with the Hungarian Science Festival event series, has almost two decades of tradition, where in addition to guest speakers, teachers and researchers of our institution can also give an account of their latest research results - also in a foreign language.

Scientific and research achievements are an integral part of the teaching and research work carried out at the faculties, our colleagues participate in the work of domestic and international scientific and professional organizations, collaborate in projects, and are also present in scientific public life with their publications (MTMT database).

The wide-ranging publication of scientific research results and the professional discourse between researchers and research workshops are also supported by the university's scientific journal,  Gradus online journal, under the care of the GAMF Faculty of Technology and Informatics.

In recent years, significant results have been achieved in the development of R+D+I infrastructure by implementing several EU tenders and investments. GAMF and the Faculty of Horticulture and Rural Development have modern laboratories and workshops capable of providing services for external orders. The university spends significant sums of money from its own and EU funds on the purchase of tools and equipment, which are also at the service of research.

The university Library and Information Center plays a decisive role in supporting scientific and R+D+I activities. In the central and faculty libraries, in addition to modern specialist literature, domestic and international journals and databases serve teaching and research activities.

In the coming period, the improvement of the conditions for scientific research work will also play a prominent role in a university infrastructure development. The university's RRF application is expected to represent considerable progress in this regard. The aim of the project is to develop the infrastructure and skills of higher education at John von Neumann University, as well as the development of digitization and strengthening its international relations, which spreads across all three faculties of the university.

The goal of the National Laboratory of Renewable Energy tender, implemented within the framework of consortium cooperation, is to build the scientific and technological, economic and industrial law protection base of small-footprint energy technologies, especially H2 storage and use, in nearly 3 years, thus making a substantial contribution to the construction of a sustainable energy management and chemical industry.
