EU Professional Development Project in the CARICOM Region
Dr. József Kárpáti, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business, participated in an international project as an invited member of a three-member European Union expert group, commissioned by the European Union Development Fund. The project was implemented in the Caribbean region under the framework of the 11th European Development Fund programme. The aim of the programme was to introduce European methodologies and quality management systems into the statistical offices of the region. Its objectives included improving the quality of data sources used for evidence-based decision-making and enhancing the communication of official statistics through the practical implementation of quality management guidelines.
During the project, the expert group developed a comprehensive strategic planning and quality audit methodology for the statistical offices of the region. Dr. József Kárpáti delivered a three-day methodological workshop on strategic planning related to quality management, participated as an observer in the interviews conducted under the newly developed quality audit system, and together with his colleagues held multi-day training sessions for the leaders of the regional statistical offices. Within the framework of the project, he visited Grenada, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Saint Lucia. The entire development project will be concluded at the end of 2025.
