Bengbu University's Hungarian Adventure
John von Neumann University welcomed students and teachers from China's Bengbu University for an unforgettable summer school experience. The week was a vibrant mix of academic exploration, cultural immersion, and hands-on fun, designed to provide an immersive look into Hungarian heritage.
The program kicked off with a grand tour of Budapest, introducing the group to Hungary's capital and its iconic sights like the Parliament and Fisherman's Bastion. After getting to know their host city, Kecskemét, with a special private tour of the historic City Hall and visits to local landmarks, the group took a dedicated Campus tour to see JvNU's modern facilities and innovative laboratories firsthand. This provided an in-depth look at the university's resources and operations.
Throughout the week, participants dove deep into Hungarian culture and traditions. They explored the city's rich culinary scene, from a hands-on coffee and bread workshop to a factory tour of Univer Product Zrt., makers of famous Hungarian condiments. A wine tasting led by a local family-owned winery and a goulash-making session gave everyone a true taste of Hungary. Cultural immersion continued with a visit to the Leskowsky Musical Instrument Museum, an interactive folk dance show, and a captivating horse herding demonstration, a deep-rooted part of Hungarian heritage.
Beyond the cultural programs, the summer school focused on teamwork and adventure. Students enjoyed a thrilling dragon boat session, which proved to be a perfect team-building activity, and put their wits to the test in an exciting escape room challenge. A visit to the Hungarikum Liget further enriched their understanding of Hungarian values, complete with a breathtaking journey through the Planetarium.
Neumann Summer School was more than just a series of events; it was an enriching journey filled with new experiences, shared laughter, and lasting memories. It perfectly blended educational insights with the joy of cultural discovery, leaving a lasting impression on everyone involved. We can’t wait to welcome the next group of students and look forward to making next year’s program as good, if not better!
