Nearly 300 students earn diplomas at JvNU

Kecskemét, Hungary – Close to 300 students received their diplomas at John von Neumann University on Friday morning. The festive graduation ceremony also saw Attila Brindza, Director of Education and Training, honored with the title of Honorary Citizen of the university.

For the spring semester of the 2024/25 academic year, 290 students successfully completed their final exams at John von Neumann University. This included 176 graduates from the GAMF Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science, 92 from the Faculty of Economics, and 22 from the Faculty of Horticulture and Rural Development. Students from master's, bachelor's, and higher education vocational training programs all received their degrees.

Following the procession of the university senate and the singing of the National Anthem, Rector Dr. Tamás Fülöp delivered a welcoming speech. He highlighted that the years spent at the university not only provide marketable skills but also enrich students with lifelong experiences.

"We are proud to say that the vast majority of our Neumann graduates find employment quickly and with high incomes," stated Rector Dr. Tamás Fülöp. "Today, tens of thousands of engineers, IT specialists, agricultural, and economic experts who graduated in Kecskemét contribute their knowledge, expertise, and professional commitment to the development of our region and the country. As of today, you too become recognized members of this community."

He also emphasized a relevant quote from the university's namesake, John von Neumann: "The problems of life cannot always be dealt with by the solutions of the past. To solve newer and newer challenges, new thinking and a new approach are needed." Rector Dr. Tamás Fülöp underscored that Neumann's timeless words stress the critical importance of creativity and problem-solving skills in shaping our future.

"Today is not just the end of something, but also the beginning of a new chapter in life," the Rector told the graduating class. "As Sándor Weöres wrote, 'the earth beneath you, the sky above you, the ladder within you.' This ladder is within you – in your spirit, soul, and heart. It's built from the knowledge and experiences gained here, and all the professional and human values that a university community, an alma mater, can provide. Use this unique gift wisely, bravely, and responsibly."

Graduating students, lined up by faculty, received their diplomas from their deans and the Rector. Students who achieved outstanding academic results were also specially recognized.
