NJE, the sporty university
John von Neumann University has a rich tradition of student and employee sports and leisure activities dating back several decades. Our student teams participate in several university and college championships, achieving outstanding domestic and international results in team and individual competitions. Thanks to these results, our university is able to enter students in more and more events in the institutional competitions of the Hungarian University and College Sports Association every year. Our strategic goals include creating the infrastructure, professional, incentive, and support systems necessary for sports activities as a sports university, with a focus on student and employee health, physical activity, individual and team sports, and recreational sports. Our goal is to establish relationships with secondary schools and sports clubs in the region that enable talented young people to combine competitive sports with higher education. Our sports development strategy goes far beyond the issues of university physical education or providing opportunities for sports, as it also includes health promotion, community development, sustainability, recognition of outstanding student athletic achievements, competitive sports, individual and team sports, support for employee leisure programs, and the necessary conditions, professionals, scholarships, and infrastructure development to ensure that Neumann János University truly becomes a sporty and attractive university.

Physical education
Health preservation, physical education
University physical education is the last educational opportunity to teach students about healthy lifestyles. At Neumann János University, two semesters of compulsory physical education are included in the curriculum. As we know, daily exercise is a requirement in primary and secondary education, partly to ensure that students who are accustomed to exercise and enjoy physical activity enter higher education institutions. Our goal in this area is to encourage as many students as possible to take exercise classes from our range of optional courses, in addition to compulsory physical education. To this end, John von Neumann University offers a number of opportunities for students to try out familiar or new sports. In recent years, the range of sports on offer has been revamped, with new elements appearing alongside traditional sports. In recent years, elective courses have included spinal gymnastics, tennis, rugby, futsal, B33, functional strength training, Cuban salsa, bachata, basic skydiving, and dragon boating.
Recreational sports area
In recent years, we have introduced a number of themed events for recreational athletes at our institution. In addition to B33 basketball, mixed volleyball, and futsal, students and staff can also participate in tennis, table tennis, boxing, wrestling, and weightlifting competitions.
In addition to compulsory and elective courses and university sports teams and training sessions, the Sports Center runs the following in-house competitions:
- Lamp Light In-house Championship (futsal)
- NJE Volley Nights (mixed volleyball)
- Weightlifting
- NJE B33 (basketball)
- Darts
- Neumann on Blue (hiking)
National University and College Sports Competitions
The Hungarian University and College Sports Association organizes national championships and cups in nearly 40 sports. John von Neumann University has achieved excellent results in many sports in recent years, and it can be said that, in terms of our results relative to our size, we finish between 10th and 20th place on an annual basis.
